General Slots Terminologies
Bonus. This is a feature offered by many slots machines games, wherein a special prize is awarded when certain symbols appear on the screen in a winning combination. With a bonus, the player is given the choice of several items on the screen. With each choice, the player is shown and awarded a certain number of credits on the slots machine. Some bonuses make use of a mechanical device–a spinning wheel is quite common–that works in tandem with the bonus mechanism in order to display the prize amount.
Candle. This is simply the light on the top of the slots machine. Its purpose is to alert the casino operator when change is needed, when the player requests a pay out by hand or when there is a problem with the slots machine.
Carousel. This is a group of slot machines in either a circle or oval formation.
Coin hopper. This is a container that holds the coins that are immediately available for payout. It is a mechanical device that places coins into the coin tray when a player collects credits or coins by pressing the “Cash Out” button.
Credit meter. This is a visual display of the amount of money or credits available on the slots machine.
